My Hoop Story
I first started hooping in 2012, at the end of winter, in the tiny space of my apartment. I never could hoop when I was a little girl. Well, I didn't have a hoop, and no one had showed me how. Now that I'm older, but young at heart, I still had the desire to learn how to hoop. So I bought, and even made a hoop, and spent many evenings hooping in my living room and figured out how to make that hoop spin and spin around. I soon discovered that it was quite the work out, as it really got my heart pumping. I also discovered a connection in hooping, a mean to get in tune with it, like a meditation. It is an opportunity for me to really focus, to breathe deep, and enjoy every minute of it. Hooping has been the most fun thing that has ever happened to me. Becuase I love to hoop, I can disregard my fear of being in front of people. It has helped make me more confident in who I am. I have made many new friends and, it has kept me fit, flexible, and happy.
More About Me
I'm a Mom with a middle school and an elementary student of my own. So, I know how hard it can be trying to get our kids to be active and help them de-stress. Some of our schools don't even offer a PE class anymore, and others are only for half of the year. I strive to find ways that we can all enjoy spending our time off, and getting away from computers. We spend a lot of our time at Tulsa's parks. I always bring a hoop, and they always play with it, at least a little. I like to stay active, learn and study my interests, support the arts, volunteer, and get outside. I garden and try to teach the importance of a healthy diet in our house. I also practice Yoga, and love to ride my bike.
Happy to be hooping,
Amber Hallford
